How to Insert Mp3 Tracks Into Ableton
In this guide, we will show you how to import, edit, and export audio files using FL Studio. It's very easy to do, so follow the sections below to get started.
- Import audio
- Drag and drop
- Create an audio clip
- Import audio into Edison
- Import audio into Slicex
- Export audio
You have the ability to import many different types of audio files: .AIFF, .DS, .DWP, .FLAC, .MP3, .OGG, .SF2, .Speech, .SYN, .XI, and .WAV. There are multiple ways you can import them, as well. Depending on what you plan on doing with the audio, you may choose one option over the other, but it's easy no matter which way you do it.
Drag and drop
Except for Fruity Edition, you can drag and drop audio from File Explorer (PC) or Finder (Mac) directly into the Playlist. Once on the Playlist, it will create an audio track on the Channel Rack. You can also drag and drop audio files from the Browser window, as well. The drag and drop method is best for when you want to add a longer audio file to the Playlist, such as a drone sound or a song that you want to remix.
Another option to import audio is to create an empty Audio Clip channel and importing it through the Audio Clip Settings window. Using this option is great for when you want to create a rhythm like a hi-hat pattern, or using a one-shot sample like a bass drop or crash cymbal.
- Click Add in the top bar and then select Audio Clip located in the Misc section.
- In the Audio Clip Settings window, click the Folder icon, locate the audio file, and then click Open.
Importing audio is also possible using the Edison plug-in. You can either drag and drop the audio file from the Browser window or use the Edison File Browser. Importing into Edison is very useful if you need to make advanced edits beforehand, such as normalizing, de-noising, and EQing.
- Open the Mixer window and select the channel where you want to add the audio file.
- Click one of the FX Slots and select Edison from the plug-in menu.
- Add the audio sample one of two ways:
- Drag and drop the audio file from the Browser window.
- Click the Disk icon or anywhere in the Waveform section, locate your audio file, and click Open.
The final way to import audio is to load it into the Slicex plug-in. Slicex uses beat detection, creates individual samples, and automatically assigns each to a note on the piano roll. Importing audio into Slicex is particularly useful if you have a recorded drum beat in which you want to alter.
- Click Add in the top bar, and select Slicex from the plug-in window.
- Add the audio sample one of two ways:
- Drag and drop the audio file from the Browser window.
- Click the Disk icon or anywhere in the Waveform section, locate your audio file, and click Open.

TIP: If you're exporting each track individually, the Master FX track will be bypassed. Any muted mixer tracks will be bypassed, as well.
Once you've finished your project, you can export it as a .WAV, .MP3, .OGG, .FLAC, or as a MIDI file. You can either export the Master track or export each track as individual .WAV files. You can even export it directly to SoundCloud if you have an account. Follow these steps to export your audio in FL Studio.
- Click File, select Export, and click the file type you want to export your track(s) as.
- Select the location you want to export to, name your file, then click Save.
- In the Render window that appears, change the settings as needed and click Start.
- To export each individual track, click Split mixer tracks in the Miscellaneous section.
